House System

The Heart of Our Community and Pastoral Care

The House system is a hallmark of British independent schools and sits at the core of pastoral life at King’s College Doha. It creates smaller, supportive communities within the wider school, helping every student form lasting friendships across year groups.

Each of our four Houses follows a consistent framework of excellent pastoral care, with student wellbeing as the first priority. The system nurtures personal growth and leadership. Older pupils mentor younger peers, organise activities, and lead their House through a lively calendar of interhouse competitions, building healthy rivalry, teamwork, and a strong shared spirit throughout the year.

Our Four Houses

Students at King’s College Doha belong to one of four Houses: Byerley, Darley, Godolphin, and Markham. Each has a clear identity, a proud ethos, and its own distinctive colour, bringing energy and belonging to daily school life.

Our Houses take their names from a cherished strand of Qatari and global heritage: the Arabian horse. They honour the four foundational stallions of the modern Thoroughbred breed, the Byerley Turk, Darley Arabian, Godolphin Arabian, and Markham Arabian. This lineage speaks to what we value in our students: ambition, grace under pressure, and deep cultural roots. Through friendly competition, leadership opportunities, and service, the House system encourages courage in every child and strengthens the sense of community that defines King’s.
