Junior Prep (Ages 7 & 8)

As children move into Year 3 and above, they will be asked to take a greater degree of responsibility for their work. Assessment gradually becomes more formalised and children receive more specialist teaching. Throughout this period we maintain a personalised approach to learning, aiming to nurture ‘curious minds’ and to create a fun and engaging environment through themes and project learning.

From Year 3 children are taught within their mixed-ability classes with their class teacher teaching them for the majority of their subjects. Specialist teachers are introduced to deliver Arabic, Islamic Studies, Music, PE and Swimming. From Year 4 more specialist teaching is introduced with the addition of Art and Science added as specialist subjects and children are streamed for some of the core subjects.

Senior Prep (Ages 9 to 13)

Unlike most other primary schools in Qatar, children in Years 5 to 8 at King’s are taught by subject specialist teachers in all lessons – Maths, English, Science, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Qatari History, Humanities, IT, PE, Swimming, Music, Art, DT and PSHE. This gives students the opportunities to learn beyond their perceived boundaries in preparation for higher education. This specialist subject teaching model enables our students to start secondary school at either age 11 or 13.

In these years more formal forms of assessment are introduced, building towards an exam taken by children in the final term of Year 7.
