English as a Second Language
At King’s College Doha our principal language of instruction is English. We recognise that, for some pupils, English is a second language (ESL) and so we ensure that there is specific and specialist provision available to help children access the curriculum.
We employ one full-time ESL specialist teacher who not only helps to ensure that other teachers are incorporating the needs of ESL children into their lesson planning, but also runs individual and small group lessons. The College makes sure that appropriate dual language resources are provided where necessary.
We cater for the needs of each child, helping children to fulfil their unique potential. A dedicated Learning Support department is equipped to oversee the requirements of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
All children requiring learning support have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The Learning Support department supports all teachers in incorporating their children’s IEPs into their lesson planning, ensuring that their needs are catered for in all contexts. In addition, the Learning Support department runs individual or small group intervention sessions for children who require more focused support to access the curriculum.
The College ensures that the Learning Support department is equipped with the resources needed to support all children to make excellent progress.
