Co-Curricular Programme

Our enviable co-curricular programme is included as part of the school day at King’s. We are fortunate to have a vast pool of specialist teachers in the school who deliver the majority of our after school clubs, which run from 3pm to 3.30pm Sunday to Thursday. We also work with a range of exceptional external providers for specific activities including sailing, horse riding, golf, and extended arts and sports through The Academy Doha.

The extended day at King’s College Doha ensures that every child is given every opportunity to discover interests and talents beyond the classroom. This helps them to build character and develop teamwork skills and self-confidence.

The programme includes a diverse range of activities, for example:

Music Tuition at King's

At King’s College Doha, we believe that Music is a valuable subject in its own right, as well as having the unique ability to enhance multi-faceted skills involved in the development of the whole child. We believe that music plays an important and integral part in all of our lives, and try to educate and enthuse in equal measure.

All our children benefit from curriculum Music lessons taught by a specialist Music teacher. This is enhanced further from Year 2 with whole-class instrumental lessons, where the children experience a termly carousel of instruments, including keyboards, recorders and guitars. Our schemes are based on Music Express and Charanga International programmes, and in addition, children prepare a range of songs and pieces for key events such as for Drama productions, assemblies and concerts. Workshops and visits are arranged to give all pupils the chance of working with outside professionals too.

In addition to the curriculum lessons, the thriving Music department offers an eclectic mix of activities, choirs and ensembles which the children are encouraged to get involved in, whether to further their musical development or simply for enjoyment. Children are also given the opportunity to learn an instrument on a one-to-one basis. Pupils are given one 30-minute individual lesson each week and, if desired, can be entered for Associated Board or Trinity Examinations although examinations are by no means obligatory – playing for fun is regarded as equally important as preparing for examinations. Our Music staff and visiting teachers are all experienced and qualified music and instrumental specialists.

The department is extremely fortunate to have a purpose-built Music suite, featuring a large, well-resourced classroom, five practice/teaching rooms and stunning performance spaces such as the Atrium.
