Expanding horizons
Whether your child is moving up from the Pre-Prep School or is new to King’s College, this will be an exciting time of expanding horizons. We will encourage your child to discover and explore all the inspiring opportunities on offer at the expansive Mesaimeer Campus, but from the security of a designated teaching and play area.
As in the Pre-Prep School, Year 3 pupils are taught in English, Mathematics and Science by a dedicated Class Teacher, with specialist teachers delivering a range of subjects including Arabic, Islamic Studies (for our Arabic pupils), Music, Physical Education and Swimming. In Year 4, more specialist teaching is introduced, with Art and Science being taught by specialists for the first time.
Lessons in the Lower School are personalised to ensure that the right levels of academic stretch and support are in place. We help the children to find out about themselves, too, and in working out how they learn best and rising to the challenge of trying new activities, they start to gain in confidence and courage.
That is why we are proud to offer an enriched curriculum and an extended school day in the Lower School; why so many of our pupils learn instruments in schools and undertake LAMDA examinations to enhance their public speaking skills. It is why your child will have the opportunity to represent the school at sport for the first time, take part in drama productions or concerts and gradually work with more and more specialist subject teachers, years ahead of their peers in other schools.
How do we fit all this in?
From Year 3 upwards, your child will enjoy an extended school day on our state-of-the-art campus. This includes a 40-minute Elective session four times per week, which takes part before lunchtime and enables every pupil in the school to participate in a huge range of activities, from origami and baking to debating and painting.
Many of our children also choose to participate in one or more of our numerous co-curricular activities, which are available until 5.30pm each day. Whether your child chooses just a few options or stays every day to take part with friends, he or she will be building useful life skills and platforms for future hobbies or careers.
